Media Show meeting #1

| February 12, 2010

On Tuesday I met with Mr. Chris at Brooklyn International High School, a small high school in Brooklyn Heights that serves recently immigrated youth. I’ve done projects with this school before, most recently Exploring Collaborative Media in the Globalized series.

This time, I am teaming up with Gus Andrews, the lead producer in the Media Show series. We’re going to work with Chris’ class to help them storyboard and write scripts for video responses to a few different Media Show episodes. Here’s our tentative production timeline for the project:

Session 1 (Introductions)
Friday February 26th: 1:00pm-2:30
-Introduction by Weena to class
-Description of the Media Show
-Example episodes
-Introduce storyboarding/scriptwriting
-Pick a question to respond to

Session 2 (Group work)
Friday March 5th: 1:00pm-2:30
-Ss work in groups of 4 (4 groups total)
-Watch episode (Probably Yell & Sell)
-Work on storyboards & scripts (each Ss should say something)

Session 3 (Finishing up & recording)
Friday March 12th: 1:00pm-2:30
-Finish scripts
-Record audio from each group
-Take pictures

Session 4 (Sharing the projects)
Friday March ?: 1:00pm-2:30
-Pass out DVDs
-Show Media Show response to projects?

I’ll be capturing to experience to show the process of storyboarding and publishing short and interesting video responses to Youtube, much in the same way that Doug and I did for the Globalized Series last Spring. I’m going to try and utilize a Ross McElwee strategy of filmmaking, narrating over first-person POV video…we’ll see how that goes.

Stay tuned for production blogs/vlogs!
